Thailand Update
Wow! What a couple of weeks this has been. The Lord has continued to provide for us in so many ways. We arrived in Thailand on the visa exemption with no problems. Seriously, they checked all of our documents and we were on our way within 10 minutes.
After we made it through customs we were greeted by one of the principals of the school. She was able to take us to look at housing...although, after 38 hours in the Singapore airport we just wanted to sleep...but to our surprise we found some Starbucks in the airport which gave us that extra energy we needed!
We looked at several places, but they were all to small for what we needed. Hopefully, as we meet more people we will be able to host dinners to get to know people in hopes that we can start a bible study! For this reason we needed something bigger so we kept looking and praying that God would provide exactly what we need.
Long story short we went to look at some houses that this British man rents out ( he married a Thai women and now owns a lot of properties). It was a very strange experience as he seemed very greedy and even made a comment about us being christians as if it was a bad thing...So needless to say we were getting bad vibes from him, but his house was the best we had seen and we needed something quickly! We got home after looking at it and prayed that God would help us make this decision and ultimately we felt that this was not the place for us and that we would keep trusting God to show us our home.
This decision was immediately confirmed as when we let the man know that we were going to continue our search he was extremely rude to us. Needless to say the experience was very strange, but we knew God had something else for us.
That very same day we were given a Thai contact that would be able to show us a few houses in a neighborhood with many other missionary families that had a security guard and a pool! We met with her a couple days later and she was so helpful and kind and she spoke great English! We looked at a house and we knew it was the one! We have moved in and feel right at home.
Teaching started last week and we have been so busy trying to learn how to make lesson plans while also trying to learn Thailand! It has been quite the challenge and honestly probably will be for a while. We are slowly getting used to things here and learning the culture.
We ran into some technical difficulty with our computer which is why we have not given any updates recently! The computer was barley working and Brandon accidentally dropped and broke our external hard drive... so we managed to find a new one at a tech store and then we decided we would watch a youtube video on how to reset a MacBook to factory settings. Long story short it worked after many long hours and we are back in business!
We have so many things to praise God for over these last weeks. He has provided for us in so many ways. He provided for our physical needs as we were able to get a house and transportation with the motorbike. He also has provided our spiritual needs with fast friends and teachers who are likeminded in our faith and a great church family!
Unfortunately Brandon woke up with a fever and chills this morning. I don't know how in the world it could be covid after he has already had it twice and 2 vaccines! I now am teaching my class and his today and then will go home to do an at home covid test. Please pray for him that it is not covid and that it will pass quickly, and for me that I will not catch it!
We will post again soon with an update about the school and more details of our first weeks here! We will hopefully get another video out soon! We love you all and thank God for you everyday!
In Christ,
Mallory
Praying for you both❤️
ReplyDeleteSo thrilled you are finally settled in your Thai home and have already started teaching. I will keep Brandon in my prayers and hope he recovers soon and you don't get sick. It is wonderful that you are already in a community of friends and Christians. I am sure the kids in school are going to love you. You both are amazing and I love the way you have conquered all obstacles you have encountered along the way. Much love, Queenie. Miss you!
