Science Day

This year the school put on their very first Science Day! The Thai teachers planned out all the activities for each station and what the day would look like. We sat in on the information meeting and had no idea what was being said because apparently the meeting was only for the Thai teachers, whoops. So after they showed pictures and discussed between themselves the plan we heard our names. We were given a station...and not just any station... the slime making station! One of my favorite parts about being a foreigner is trying to understand what they are saying to us and vice versa. It makes everything so light hearted and funny. For example as they are trying to explain how to make the slime it took way longer than it should have, there was a lot of laughter, and it ended with Brandon and I acting like we understood when, in fact, we did not. We felt like we got the gist of it and hyped each other up for a super successful day of slime making!

The next morning we set up our station and practiced a few times and man we were nailing it. Best slime I've ever seen. The kids started pouring in and we were cranking out slime like Robin Williams making flubber. It honestly was really messy and extremely hard which is when we realized that the Thai teachers might just pawned this off on us because they didn't want to do it. But hey, we now have a skill that we didn't before. You never know when you will need some slime.

They had around 20 different stations ( chess, live goldfish catching, science experiments, ect.) for the kids to go too and a science show were they did experiments for the kids to watch. The high schoolers were apart of a fashion show where they had used the previous week to make dresses out of trash! There was then a dance competition, which somehow we got called up on stage, and keep in mind we have no idea what they are saying so we are just taking cues from around us. It seemed like we were were doing some sort of chicken dance, but the Thai version. The kids loved it and it was quite funny. They had venders come where the kids could buy a coke or some little snacks. I think they probably made more money off of Brandon than the kids. One of my students presented me with a bag of live goldfish and pointed and said " Tee-shaa (meaning teacher), Cartoon, Manaw!" She had named them after us and her friend. Thankfully I was able to give them to another teacher who had a fish tank because if not they were probably going to die, but it was so sweet and I wish I could have kept them. Here are some pictures of a very successful science day!
