Bangkok, Thailand

    A couple weeks ago we packed our bags and flew out to Bangkok! I was very excited to go to Bangkok because it was there that my parents met each other 33 years ago! My mom who is from Massachusetts, and my dad, who is from Georgia were each on separate mission teams going to Bangkok, Thailand. Their teams were assigned the same college campus! After they became fast friends my dad realized he couldn't let my mom slip away! They decided to date and the rest is history!

                                           

 I too actually had already been to Thailand! My parents took us back for a summer to continue the work they had started years ago. Here are some pictures from when I was there in 1999.

                                                Mallory and Casey eating some Kao Pad Khai. This is what I lived off of during this trip as well. Chicken fried rice, cucumber, and a half of a lime. Nothings changed in 20 years! 

                                          

    We had a great time in Bangkok and I don't think either one of us realized how big Bangkok is. The population is 10 million people! We learned how to navigate the sky train, rode our first tuk tuk, and went to several markets and many malls. We found a Krispy Kreme and a Taco Bell! We were so happy we could have cried! 







     We also were able to connect with one of my moms coworkers who also helps missionaries raise funds. We met with her and her husband and they were awesome! 

     There was another opportunity to meet with some missionaries in Bangkok, but they were on a weekend trip to run a marathon, so we did not end up getting to meet them (fun fact, she was my second grade teacher!) We ended up going to their church on Sunday and it was an amazing time of worship and fellowship. Another fun fact, there ended up being 3-4 young couples from Birmingham that were missionaries at this church AND I knew some of them! How crazy. 

      We only stayed in Bangkok for a week and then it was time for our next adventure!

As many of you know we have been constantly praying for God to lead us where we can most effectively serve Him and bring Him glory. So far God has sent us to Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan! We have been so blessed to have been a part of so many different ministry opportunities over the last 8 months and to have seen and experienced God working all over Asia. We have learned so much, not only about ministry, but about ourselves. This trip has challenged us in many ways, growing us in our relationship with God and each other. We met many people who have greatly impacted our lives and we will be forever grateful for the time we shared together in Asia.  So whats next?! Over the last month we prayed that God would again guide our way. We prayed for Him to open the doors where we need to go and close them where we didn't. Science Day

       This year the school put on their very first Science Day! The Thai teachers planned out all the activities for each station and what the day would look like. We sat in on the information meeting and had no idea what was being said because apparently the meeting was only for the Thai teachers, whoops. So after they showed pictures and discussed between themselves the plan we heard our names. We were given a station...and not just any station... the slime making station! One of my favorite parts about being a foreigner is trying to understand what they are saying to us and vice versa. It makes everything so light hearted and funny. For example as they are trying to explain how to make the slime it took way longer than it should have, there was a lot of laughter, and it ended with Brandon and I acting like we understood when, in fact, we did not. We felt like we got the gist of it and hyped each other up for a super successful day of slime making!    ...

Tokyo Update

Happy Late Thanksgiving!  We are so happy we were able to spend Thanksgiving in Japan. It has been so fun continuing to build friendships with the missionaries at Hope Alive. On Thanksgiving day everyone came together and we met many missionaries from around Tokyo, most of whom we had not yet met. We had traditional Thanksgiving dishes which was amazing, my favorite being the broccoli and cheese casserole. I usually would not be so exited about the broccoli and cheese casserole, but it was the best I have ever eaten in my entire 28 years on earth. Also, the missionaries who usually make the turkey were not here this year and none of the other people felt confident to make one. They solved this problem by getting Emily (she is 26 and has cooking experience) to make it! At one point I found Brandon and Emily laughing historically not knowing if it was cooked or how to cut it.
